How to protect your home and yourself against Bushfires.

Prior to the bushfire danger season, it is essential that all residents living in a fire prone location take the time to prepare their property against such dangers. The following is a guide of precautions you can take to minimise the effect that a bushfire has on your dwellings:

1)        Clear gutters of all leaf debris.

2)        Clear ground fuels around the house like long dry grass, branches, shrubs.

3)        Remove flammable items from around the house to prevent explosions.

4)        Have a hose long enough to reach around the entire house attached to taps.

A complete stocking of Personal Protective Clothing should also be maintained. Clothing that is made with natural fibres including cotton, wool and leather is desirable. Cotton Trousers, cotton long sleeve shirt, boots, gloves, and a  hat and eyewear if available. If a fire front is approaching your area, fresh cold water is essential.
